May 4, 2018 The first in Russia specialized facility for people who suffer from gambling and videogames addiction in opened by the International Medical Center of Addiction Treatment IMC.
Game addiction has a variety of manifestations. And it makes no difference whether you can’t get away from the computer or gambling all night long in a casino, it inevitably destroys all areas of a person's life. A person finds himself trapped in his own desire to get this particular kind of pleasure, again and again. Problems with studying, career, finances and in relations with loved ones are inevitable companions of compulsive gambling.
In the new unit of the IMC clinic we created a comfortable therapeutic environment in which a team of specialists helps overcome addiction to game. Unlike other clinics, in IMC clients with gambling addiction do not overlap with residents of the drug and alcohol abuse unit. One medical term lasts 21 days. Depending on the client's motivation and the degree of his involvement in the therapeutic process, a full course of treatment takes from one to three semesters.
The crushing fall of self-esteem from the realization of what is happening leads to a state of total despair. It is for this reason that the risk of suicide among compulsive players is even higher than among people with drug and alcohol addiction. Therefore, it is extremely important not to procrastinate when it comes to scheduling consultation with a specialist. If you have suspicions that a loved one has got into a game addiction – please do not hesitate to call us. All calls are free and anonymous.
Genetic testing for predisposition to addiction – now available in Russia
The International Medical Center IMC is Russia's first addiction treatment clinic, where genetic testing for predisposition to addiction is conducted.
This test determines the main genes and their variations, which can predict who is at greatest risk of addictive behavior.
Addiction can develop due to a variety of factors. Scientists are exploring why some people are more prone to addiction than others, and genetic factors are one of the defining elements.
A number of hereditary factors can lead to an imbalance of neurotransmitters – for example, dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin - and their receptors. Dopamine is responsible for the sense of satisfaction, norepinephrine is the neurotransmitter of wakefulness and quick decision making, and serotonin is involved in motor activity and helps body to the fight inflammation.
Since they take a direct part in the process of addiction development, the results of genetic testing of at an early stage helps to prescribe adequate medical and psychotherapeutic correction, choose the treatment regimen, and therefore – to insure the best result of treatment.
